A letter to your favourite character

My favourite character is Katya because she is kind, intelligent and humble.

Dear Katya,

Hi! I'm Eugene Chee and I'm 12 this year. I've read about you in a book and its very interesting. You are my favourite character because you are very kind and humble. I have never met anyone as clever as you. I was very surprised that the thing you loved the most was the Czar. That was very good thinking! Oh well, I have to go now. I hope we meet someday. Goodbye for now!

From,
Eugene Chee

Book review

Title : Clever Katya

Retold by : Julia Donaldson

Illustrator : Jane Kochnewitz

Publisher : Ginn and Company

Summary :

This is a story about the Czar in Russia who thought that he was the cleverest person in Russia. He was finally outwitted by a farmer's daughter named Katya. The Czar was so impressed with her that he asked her to marry him. Katya made the Czar promised to allow her to take the thing she loved best in the palace if he ever got fed up with her and send her home. A year later, the Czar quarrelled with Katya and sent her home. Katya took with her a big chest. When she arrived home, her father opened the lid of the chest and found the Czar, fast asleep. Just then the Czar woke up and was shocked to find himself in Katya's father's house. Katya reminded him that he promised that she could keep the thing she loved best in the palace. It was the Czar of Russia himself. The Czar realised that Katya was the cleverest person in Russia. He laughed and hugged Katya and promised never to send her away again.

The part I liked the most :

The part I like the most is when Katya's father opened the big chest and found the Czar in it. I tried to imagine the expression on his face and that made me roar with laughter.

What I learnt from the story :

I learnt that we should be humble as there will always be someone better than us.

How I rate the book :

It was one of the best books that I have ever read. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the least and 10 being the most favoured, I will give it a rating of 9.
